A person who is experiencing ‘tongue thrust’ may understand that he/she is suffering from mouth breathing. A tongue thrust affects breathing, chewing, swallowing and speech in a problematic way.  There are many people who are in a habit of breathing through mouth, whereas some only breathe through their mouth while sleeping. Mouth breathing is a process in which a person breathes from mouth rather than his nose. Breathing from mouth is a sign of ‘chronic hyperventilation.’ A healthy person does not breathe from mouth and if in case he/she tries, then their body oxygenation will be below forty seconds.

How to stop Mouth Breathing?

Is mouth breathing bad for health? Well the answer is yes. Stopping mouth breathing is very crucial for health. If not treated on time, it may give birth to other health problems as well. So here are some ways that can help you to keep a check on this problem.

Wash your bed linen and clean up or change your house’s air filtration. Nasal congestion can be caused by simply allergens on bedding and in the air. Keep your house clean by reducing pollen as well as other irritating particulates that can affect your own nasal passages.

Wear an over-the-counter nasal strip, ensure to use a nasal spray or wear a face strap. Chin tie restrict the mouth area from opening because you sleep so it is possible to breathe through your nose. Nasal pieces and nasal sprays let constricted nasal passages to open so you don’t need to use the mouth area as your primary airway.

Lift your head’s sleeping position. Sleeping on your own back using your head inside a certain position could cause your mouth area to open whilst you sleep. Certain pillows are made to elevate your head and lessen and neck strain whilst maintaining convenience. Elevating your head can lessen nasal spill and available nasal passages to reduce congestion.
